EAPPM Newsletter 2001
Next ECPPM-conference Portoroz, Slovenia, September 2002
About the conference series:
The series was initiated by Prof. Raimar Scherer in 1994 as a joint initiative of several European projects related to construction information technology. It is closely toed to the European Association of Product and Process Modeling EAPPM.
In an interval of two years, these conferences bring together the academia, research, construction industry and software and Web developers to the topic of information management in the building and construction industry.
In spite of new information technologies popping out so frequently, the analysis and modeling of the information, the products of the industry and the processes in which they are designed and built, remains very important.
Traditionally strong was an overview of the EU research projects and the participation of experts from the EU. In spite of its name, the conferences have been open and have attracted numerous researchers from overseas.
Previous conferences:
1994: Dresden, Germany.
1998: Watford, England.
2000: Lisbon, Portugal.
Next conference:
The themes of the 2002 ECPPM include all the traditional product and process modeling topics. However, as someone, setting up websites in 1993, the organizer of the 2002 ECPPM suggests to focus this event on the research, development and use of communication technologies, such as the Internet, Web and mobile communication and their impact on how we work and do business in construction.

The 4th ISTforCe technical meeting was held in Nice from the 15th till the 17th of January. Several Topics were discussed:
- The www.istforce.com server has been re-engineered and the pages now provide further content and a new design.
- A final decision on the IFC release to be used was made. Despite the problems of getting real CAD-data within the near future the IFC 2x version was chosen. Autodesk and Nemetscheck will be contacted for an early Release result from the IFC 2x Interface.
- Several Decisions were made concerning the Platform architecture. After intensive discussions, a three level platform architecture (Gateway/front-end, Core services, Extended (peripheral) services) for the CESP was agreed on. A first web design for the GUI was accepted. It was pointed out, that the platform will extend and improve current platforms available on the web, such as CITADON etc. and provide several systems and corresponding specifications for interfaces with Accounting systems, Data management system as well as Authentication and billing system. Videoconferencing and help desks will be integrated in the platform as a service.
